Leukemia

Leukemia is a type of cancer, mainly develop in the blood-forming tissue. Usually, leukemia is formed in the tissue present in the bone marrow. This cancer leads to the excess development of abnormal white blood cells (WBCs). From this cancer, the immune system (which protects the body against infection) of the suffers get affected.

Leukemia is of five types –

  1. Acute myeloid (or myelogenous) leukemia (AML)
  2. Chronic myeloid (or myelogenous) leukemia (CML)
  3. Acute lymphocytic (or lymphoblastic) leukemia(ALL)
  4. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)
  5. Hairy Cell Leukemia

Causes of Leukemia

Till now it is not exactly known that what is the causing factor of Leukemia but it seems to develop from the combination of genetic and environmental factors. Scientists are still researching on this.
